Before the nouns  home, church, table, bed, school, college, hospital indicating the use of the building or object. The definite article is used when we refer to the building or object as such.

They were at table when we come into the room.

David was in hospital for two weeks.

I left college year ago.

I will stay in bed today.

 

Before names of bridges, parks, railway stations, airports and squares.
